IPAF MEWP - 3a & 3b (Scissors & Boom Lifts)

This IPAF Operator 1 day training course is suitable for anyone who operates MEWP Scissor and/or Boom Lifts.  Previous Experience is highly recommended.

The aim of the training is to provide the participant with knowledge and skills to enable them to operate the MEWP (Mobile Elevated Working Platform) (3A & 3B) in a competent and safe manner. IPAF training is  increasingly becoming a requirement for MEWP operators working on Irish construction sites.

Please note operatives must also be certified Safety Harness Users.   The practical can be incorporated in the 3a & 3b course, the eLearning theory module must be completed prior to attending.  Extra charge applies.

Course Objectives:

To provide delegates with the essential knowledge required to operate various types of MEWPs under two IPAF categories 3a Mobile Vertical and 3b Mobile Boom categories efficiently and safely.

IPAF 3a Operator category covers the safe use of Mobile Vertical machines generally called Scissor Lifts.

IPAF 3b Operator category covers the safe use of Mobile Boom machines which are self-propelled booms and may be articulated or telescopic booms and can be driven at height.

Course Requirements:

Full PPE required includes Hi Vis, Harness, Safety Shoes, Harness & Adjustable Restraint Lanyard and a Hard Hat.  

Previous Experience of operating MEWS Boom and Scissor is recommended

A good level of English is also required. 

Users should be physically fit and in good health and should, generally, not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights / vertigo, difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness.  

If you have any problems with literacy or language comprehension, or have any doubts about your fitness to use MEWPs, you must bring them to the attention of your employer. 

 

What is IPAF?

IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) is an internationally recognized license to operate certain construction plant. These include 3a (Scissors Lift), 3b (Boom Lift) and 1b (Static/Spider Lift).  This course provides the IPAF ticket for 3a and 3b lifts, also known as scissors and boom lifts. 

 

Why do I need IPAF training?

IPAF tickets are required by many construction sites in Ireland. IPAF is also recognized internationally, it is recommended that you complete the 1-day IPAF course. 

 Our course gives the benefit of Dual Certification - HSA compliant MEWP Certification and IPAF PAL certification. This means you are fully compliant to work on any site in Ireland as well as many other countries. 

What's the difference between IPAF and MEWP Certification? 

-IPAF certification is recognised in many countries including Canada and Australia. 

-IPAF is a 5-year International certification whereas MEWP is a 3 year Irish certification. 

-MEWP Certification meets HSA requirements (which includes the required training to be done every 3 years, not every 5 years). 

Our IPAF course gives the benefit of Dual Certification - HSA compliant MEWP Certification and IPAF PAL certification. This means you are fully compliant to work on any site in Ireland as well as many other countries. 

OSS will accommodate clients wherever possible with regard to rescheduling or cancelling courses, however OSS reserves the right to apply the following:

Cancellation notice must be given within our office hours i.e Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
